Florida Golf Cart & LSV Laws — What Every Renter Must Know

Beach Better golf carts are street-legal Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs) with Florida plates — real traffic laws apply. Read this before you drive. Ignorance of these rules does not exempt renters from fines, fees, or loss of refund.

Florida LSV Laws — Prohibited Activities & Driver Requirements

Applies to all Beach Better rentals in Destin, Miramar Beach, Santa Rosa Beach & 30A

Strictly Prohibited — Violations May Result in Fines, Fees, or No Refund

  • No alcohol or drugs while operating the LSV — Florida DUI laws apply
  • No cell phones or headsets for music while driving — prohibited under Florida law
  • No driving on US Highway 98 / Emerald Coast Parkway or its pedestrian paths
  • No sidewalks, beach, or trails — LSVs are road vehicles only
  • No standing passengers — all occupants must be seated and belted at all times
  • No lap-riding or double-buckling
  • No children age 3 or under without a properly installed car seat
  • No pets in the cart
  • No items on the roof (chairs, coolers, bags, etc.)

Your Insurance Is Primary

Your personal auto insurance covers this vehicle first — not Beach Better's. Rental Collision Protection (RCP) is an optional secondary add-on at $20/driver/day.

Headlights & Weather

Headlights must be manually turned on at night — they are not automatic. Beach Better may retrieve carts during severe weather or hurricanes for safe indoor storage.

Report Damage Immediately

If damage occurs, photograph it and text it to (850) 830-4699 right away. Do not wait until you leave town. Unreported damage discovered at return may result in additional charges.

Hurricane / Recall Exception

If Beach Better initiates pickup due to a hurricane or unforeseen event, a prorated refund is issued for unused prepaid days only.

Florida Statute 812.155

Failure to return the LSV at the end of the rental period is prima facie evidence of intent to defraud under Florida law.

Golf Cart Accident Protocol — Florida Law Requirements

Required steps if you are involved in any accident while operating a Beach Better LSV

Call 911 — Required by Florida Law — Never Leave the Scene

Calling 911 is required even if no other vehicles were involved. Leaving the scene of an accident is a violation of Florida law regardless of severity.

  1. 1
Call 911. Required — even with no other vehicles involved.
  2. 2
Stay at the scene. Do not leave under any circumstances.
  3. 3
Get a sheriff's accident report. Same process as a car accident.
  4. 4
Move to the roadside when safe and legally permitted.
  5. 5
Stay calm. Speak only to police. Get officer's name and badge number. Make no settlements.
  6. 6
Collect witness info — names, addresses, and where any injured parties are being treated.
  7. 7
Document everything. Photo and video all damage to vehicles and property.
  8. 8
Text Beach Better at (850) 830-4699 to report the incident.
  9. 9
Complete an Incident Report. Required for all accidents — no exceptions.

What Is Not an Emergency

Dead batteries and lost keys are not emergencies. Beach Better handles non-accident needs during normal business hours. Emergencies = crash or theft only.

AirTag Tracking — Every Rental Cart Is Equipped

Apple AirTag installed in all Beach Better golf cart rentals — cannot be removed

Every cart has a non-removable Apple AirTag for fleet security and fast support. If your phone shows an AirTag alert during your stay, check the unique cart ID on the windshield to confirm it belongs to your rental. This is normal — it means your cart is tracking properly.

Dead Battery — Tow Service & Charging Instructions

What to do if your electric rental golf cart runs out of charge

If your electric cart dies away from your rental property, Beach Better offers a paid tow service to transport it back for recharging. Book a tow online here. A dead battery is not a roadside emergency — we assist during normal business hours only.

Find Charging Instructions

On the cart's windshield sticker (Beach Better sticker — not the Walton County sticker), in your confirmation email, or on the Electric Cart Driver Info page.

Under 90% Charge Fee

Electric carts returned with less than 90% battery charge are subject to a $100 fee billed to the card on file.
